Moving Beyond Resolutions
"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
- George Bernard Shaw
Happy 2025!
This time of year brings hope, second chances, and new goals. The New Year represents fresh starts and endless possibilities, allowing us to let go of past limits and consider who we want to be. January is ideal for releasing disappointments and welcoming new beginnings. It encourages us to aim higher!
Life can be complicated, so it's important to take a moment to think about our personal journeys. Each year offers a chance for growth, encouraging us to not only consider what we want but also how we pursue it. This mindset can greatly affect our experiences and outcomes. How will you focus on your growth this year?
Think of your new year in terms of intentions instead of traditional resolutions. Resolutions, such as losing weight or obtaining a new job, are often strict and short-lived, leading to disappointment and discouragement relatively quickly. Achieving goals can be challenging due to often unrealistic time limits and high expectations that may not align with your current circumstances. Motivation requires energy and enthusiasm, which can easily fade away due to fatigue, stress, or other life challenges. Intentions, however, support ongoing personal growth and offer much-needed flexibility, allowing you to gently guide your life toward what you truly desire and aspire to achieve.
So, instead of making resolutions that often fade away by mid-February, I focus on my intentions and ongoing goals. Each year, I select a word to serve as my guiding principle; for 2025, my word is “Acceptance,” which embodies my desire to embrace my current circumstances and cultivate personal growth without the pursuit of perfection.
In my coaching practice, I consistently approach my clients with a strong emphasis on cultivating an abundance mindset. This perspective allows me to help them recognize the many opportunities and possibilities that exist in their lives. So, instead of thinking of “finding themselves” which implies loss, I encourage them to consider “creating” themselves, which opens up possibilities.
So, for you my friends, I would like to invite you to try something new this year. Take a moment to pause and reflect on your unique personal journey thus far. What single word could serve as a guiding beacon, inspiring and encouraging you to continue moving forward and to make meaningful progress in your life?Instead of thinking about starting over, at what point in your journey do you consider this year to be a fresh continuation?
What actions have you taken so far to advance your goals?
